Fresno gang member arrested after carjacking

18-year-old Fresno gang member was booked into Fresno County Jail early Monday after a carjacking Sunday night, police said. About 7 p.m. Sunday, a Fresno man was in his parked vehicle outside the Amtrak train station in downtown Fresno when he was confronted by two suspects, one armed with a handgun. They ordered him out of the vehicle. The armed suspect identified himself as a criminal street gang member. Fearing he would be shot, the man got out of his vehicle and allowed the suspects to take it. About 10 p.m. Sunday, officers saw the vehicle abandoned behind a business at Blackstone Avenue and Saginaw Way. When officers searched the vehicle they found documents linking an 18-year old Fresno man to the armed carjacking along with a pellet pistol that resembled a real firearm. Officers later located and arrested the suspect near Ninth Street and Bulldog Lane. The suspect, who has an extensive criminal history, admitted his involvement in the carjacking, police said. He had been released from jail early Sunday after being booked Saturday night on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and being a gang member after trying to cash a stolen check at a Fresno bank, police said.
